Our Start in Nova Scotia

A Brief History of Our Ancestors

From 1750-1752, under the auspices of the British government and the Governor of Nova Scotia, our ancestors were enlisted from Germany, Switzerland and Montbeliard to settle in Nova Scotia. (At the time, Montbeliard was still an independent "Countship" (or "Principality") it became part of France in 1793).
These immigrants came to be known as the Foreign Protestants who, shortly after their arrival in Halifax, settled in nearby Lunenburg County.
They were soon joined by pre-Loyalists from New England. Together, all of these people contributed to the richness of our heritage and to the diverse culture of Lunenburg County today.
